“Perusing the Perimeter” 2014 Fantasy Baseball Player Profile: Andrew McCutchen

Going into the 2013 season many of us thought there was a solid chance the Pittsburgh Pirates would compete within the NL division …But I doubt many of us outside of Pittsburgh thought they would do as well as they did… The Reigning National League MVP Andrew McCutchen rightfully deserves that title as the Pirates beat my beloved Cincinnati Reds in the wildcard play-in game and they would never been in position all year to do so without his stellar play….

If you don’t follow ya boy on twitter …First, let me tell that you should fix that and follow me here @Whudey….Second, that you know my hate runs deep for Pittsburgh and many are wondering have I gone too far with the hate with my ranking of NL MVP Andrew McCutchen ?? As it stands right now, I currently have Andrew McCutchen ranked #14th and that is probably where he will stay for the most in the 12-16 area….While it is highly doubtful anyone would ever see @TheCutch22 hit the second round (currently the 4th to 8th selection in many drafts) I for one will not be drafting him unless he is available to me in the 2nd round and here is why…

I like you and I think you are a beast…but early first round material…meh…..

It was a banner year in 2013  not just for McCutchen but the team as a whole ….My first and initial feeling is that there is no way the supporting cast makes a race for the division crown two years in a row…When you have a guy entering his sophomore season in Starling Marte who had a ridiculous .363 BABIP to go with just a modest .280 AVG somethings has got to give here…I expect both numbers to drop in a major way…limiting McCutchen’s RBI potential …. and lets look behind him in the order where a guy in Pedro Alvarez who has hit 30+ bombs two years in a row ….the sub .240 AVG on the other hand could mean he may be this year’s version of a 2013 Dan Uggla where the big power just doesn’t translate into success….which hurts McCutchen #s in stolen bases and runs scored. Let alone the pitching staff being an unknown outside of Gerrit Cole for any kind of success.

Now, let’s take a second to look at the man himself. Like I said before no doubt he deserved the NL MVP as his pre-ASB .302/.376/.471 versus his post-ASB .339/.441/.561 lines pretty much tell you all you need to know. Usually a hot starter so it was werid to see him struggle early on. He was hitting .360 in 2012 Pre-ASB. But folks this is just two years of excellent production ….In 2010 he was just in .286 hitter and in 2011 a robust .259 ……Not to mention his BABIP in 2011 of .291 compared to 2012′s .375 and 2013′s .353 …regression is gonna come at some point (previous career high was .327) …. Could he be just entering into his prime? Sure, but I still think that some regression will be there if not on the part Andrew McCutchen then his surrounding parts will fail him. A Great five-tool talent who I just cannot claim to be first rounder material…Sorry not sorry….

“Perusing the Perimeter” Fantasy Football 2013 – Championship Week 16

Before we get into the nitty-gritty on this blog ya boy @Whudey wanted to wish you all a Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and a Happy New Year….Remember, that this time of year is all about the love we receive from others that make it so special ….I hope that I have been able to provide you with some great insight for 2013 and look forward to being in your corner come summer of 2014 all over again ….So that we can share this intimate moment of it being Championship Week in many fantasy football leagues…(I apologize to those who are in leagues that go to Week 17 and wish you the same good fortune…although I won’t be around next week ..I have faith yule get the job done…)
Last week, you saw waiver wire heroes and kickers (Shout out to Justin Tucker ) lead fantasy football teams to glory….That really shouldn’t come as a shock to those who read this blog as it something you should always keep in the back of your mind as this is the reality in the game of fantasy football…and while many will argue that the luck factor involved is down right criminal and hurts the game…I agree with you..but on the other hand…Wouldn’t have it any other way…You see it the rush of the uncertainty that has us addicted..win or lose …you will be back next year for more ..and win or lose …you are one half of the Championship Finals…give yourself a pat on the back..You deserve it..But we have a job to do…We have a Championship to win…So enough of sweet talk…because “We want winners” …leave it all out there of the fake football field this week…Make a complete mess of the wire, talk some extreme smack talk to your opponent…any advantage you have at your disposal ….Use it this week…This is a no holds barred ol’ school WWF Ladders Deathmatch and only the person who is able to climb the ladder after beating the living shit out of their opponent to grab the belt will win the title….You have to be in that kind of mindset…You saw what playing it safe got you last week rolling out your “studs” …It’s time to do some serious thinking and analysis (not to the degree of over-thinking things..) but win or lose…this week is a product of your decision making…yours and yours alone..As a matter of fact The “Perusing the Perimeter” podcast this week with FT411 family members in @FantasyTrade411 and @TheTonyM is just the thing to help walk you through some tough decisions you are mulling over this week…other than that..you may use my Start/Sit and rankings below as a guide as well…Let me finish by saying….I’m proud of you…Be Bold…Be Brave…Be You….Good Luck…

I will be grouping the offensive skill positions listing my “Loves” first and then “Hates”….After that I will color code them from most comfortable to least comfortable on placing into my starting lineup this week…Hope its not to confusing and hope it ultimately helps…My personal rankings from FantasyPros.com for the given week posted below which I will update daily up until a couple hours before kickoff every Sunday:

Quarterbacks

Andy Dalton – For the love of god don’t let me and the city of Cincinnati down this week GinjaNinja

Kirk Cousins - I’m drinking the kool-aid here…

Ryan Fitzpatrick - Going to go ham to earn a nice two-year deal

Big BenFuck the Steelers…

Ryan Tannehill - has been the catalyst for the success of this team all year…no reason it should end on the road…barring extreme inclimate weather…

Thad Lewis – maybe just maybe…ok nevermind…. but still….

…………………

Carson Palmer – He may not even play in this one…but the matchup made him a huge a downgrade regardless..

Matt Cassel – Mike Zimmer and the Bengals at home..Pass

Eli Manning – After last week how can you possibly trust this guy….!?

Jay Cutler – He just makes me nervous …should post solid production regardless..

Aaron Rodgers - As it stands sounds like he may not be the savior everyone who stashed him had hoped for…

Tom Brady – Maybe the Ravens shut him down?!

Running Backs

Gio Bernard – Please can we feed him and have more games in terms of usage like a week ago Jay Gruden?

Bobby Rainey – Start him if you got him…

Jordan Todman - one of the Week 15 heroes returns for an encore…

Joique Bell – Just a hunch he gets enough action to be a sexy sleeper this week

Dennis Johnson - Week 16 wavier wire hero…

Daniel Thomas – This is a high risk option but he seems to have the GL role …could do worse this week…

………………………

Alfred Morris – If I can start anyone over him this week I am …hell I would seriously consider Daniel Thomas at this point…the touchdowns aren’t there and the sporadic usage not to mention removed from the passing game has killed all his 1st round value…

Steven Jackson - I want nothing to do with this…but he is a better option than Morris if you want to split hairs…

Steven Ridley – Am I missing something from the projections I have seen on various sites this week!?

Danny Woodhead – Ryan Mathews is being leaned on more and more …killing Woodhead’s touch volume…

Trent Richardson - Last week was nice…just leave him on your bench and hope that 2014 is a better year for last year’s 4th overall selection..

Eddie Lacy - Not the best matchup but what can you do …

Wide Receivers

Micheal Crabtree – Hope you listened a week ago because he is back and ready to help get the 49ers in the postseason

Ace Sanders – Looks like he can help if you are in a pinch…

Brandon LaFell – The CAR WR you want to own this weekend…

Kenny Stills – Love Colston’s recent usage but I want vintage Brees …think owners get it this week and Kenny gets a long bomb or two..

Robert Woods - Hunch call…

Jacoby Jones- Dancing with the Ravens

………………………………..

Larry Fitzgerald – SIT SIT SIT……. if you can of course…

Danny Amendola – I don’t trust him ..

Marvin Jones – Of course I hope that I am wrong here but owners may look to take a shot on other Bengals pass catchers not named AJ Green this week…and may end up with a lump of coal using Jones here…

Torrey Smith – Belichick Games…

Jordy Nelson - Finally scored last week without Rodgers..you think he doubles down on that this week…because I don’t

Josh Gordon - No! you do not sit him but with Jason Campbell at QB you have to consider it at least…

Tight Ends

Tony Gonzalez - Ball out for one last time HOF’er

Heath Miller - ……….

Tyler Eifert- Love him if Gresham is inactive…

Martellus Bennett – Cutler will look for him in the RZ

Tim Wright – Maybe Glennon can repeat last week’s magic…??

Zach Miller – The Streaming of TEs versus ARZ has been gold for the most par the last two months..

…………………..

Jordan Cameron- Let’s just take a moment of silence for Jordan Cameron owners who have never thought they missed Brian Hoyer so much..

Coby Fleener- Matchup problem

Greg Olsen- Has disappeared…

Logan Paulsen- Lukewarm love for him..

Dennis Pitta – Last week was a bit nerve racking…still the 2nd option in the passing game..hopefully he bounces back…

Jimmy Graham – Reverse Jinx…

Good luck to you all during Championship Week  and remember….Trust your gut!!…everyone in the fantasy community including myself claim to know it all but at the end of the day its your team and your job to soak in all information and make the best calls for your team…Thank you for reading do not forget to check out my Fantasy Sports and Real Sports podcast “Perusing the Perimeter”  Championship Week 16  show with @FantasyTrade411 and @TheTonyM on @FantasyTrade411Radio Network also available on I-Tunes.

“Perusing the Perimeter” Fantasy Football 2013 – Week 15

Fantasy Football is a lot like Sex…..And while I am no Sue Johanson it’s not rocket science to know that we all crave sex as humans….those of us who are obsessed with the NFL crave fantasy football in similar fashion….sure some of us are in it for the one night stands of daily fantasy football or just taking part in one standard league…and others like myself are down right nymphomaniacs when dealing with our fantasy football addiction…..some rosters are just ugly and will leave you wondering how did I end up with this drafted squad at season’s end staring at a 1-12 record..(Stop hanging out with Rob Ford might be a good start)…some rosters are just hot and sexy and sure those teams are far better off…The fantasy football season each week you put on the condom of insecurity and hope and pray that your fake football team will dominate….the love making may be so great that you are the top scorer for the week…along the way you may or may not contract a STD in the form of a serious injury to a early round investment…but as long as you make to the doctor early and fix your roster …you very well could still be here in Week 15 …giving your roster all the PDA it deserves so that come Sunday when you get into the sack with your fantasy football team …It gives you what you want…Great Sex…that’s really all we want from Sex or in this case fantasy football…sure there is the whole love factor but there is for another blog on another day…it’s the about the sex…the good lays and the terrible ones…the blowouts and .5 point losses…The boobs (@Whudey) and ass….The studs and the waiver wire gems…The Butterfaces and the Prudes…the injury prone and the duds…Sex like fantasy football at its core is necessary “evil”…it’s healthy and recommended (at the appropriate age) to indulge in a great deal…but its also not the be all and end all….If you aren’t having sex this week because you were eliminated last week in the first week of the playoffs…It’s ok…there is always masturbation in the form of just sitting back and enjoying football for the next two months..Those of you who are stripping down ready to get it on like Marvin Gaye this week …try not to get lost In the sauce and fall in love too soon…make that roster earn the right to put a ring on it like Beyonce by getting you to the finals…so take a step back and give your roster a hard look..is this a roster your really want to marry???…Hard Decisions are to be made this week (That’s what she said..Sorry couldn’t resist)… So when you are getting ready to start players this Thursday/Sunday/Monday make sure you leave Week 15 with no regrets…Be Bold…Be Brave…Be You…Check out my podcast as a form of some baby making music …. “Perusing the Perimeter” with @KyleWachtel.…Good luck this week…

I will be grouping the offensive skill positions listing my “Loves” first and then “Hates”….After that I will color code them from most comfortable to least comfortable on placing into my starting lineup this week…Hope its not to confusing and hope it ultimately helps…New addition to the “PTP” blog this year will be my personal rankings from FantasyPros.com for the given week posted below which I will update daily up until a couple hours before kickoff every Sunday:

Fantasy Football Rankings powered by FantasyPros

Quarterbacks

EJ Manuel- He had a bad week last week…ok that might be a huge understatement …Anyway… Go Seminoles!!!

Matt Ryan-Seriously folks I have been putting him here every week for the past 3 to 4 weeks and while the numbers aren’t super… they aren’t bad

Kirk Cousins-Time for him to get showcased for trade bait….

Ryan Tannehill-If he doesn’t show up the Dolphins lose a very critical must have game…

Alex Smith-Has quietly thrown for a couple of scores in each contest the last few weeks…. why should that stop now?

Joe Flacco-Last week wasn’t what we expected of him but still managed a nice day…much like last week it will be on his shoulders to win it for the Ravens

………………….

Case Keenum-Dead to me…

Eli Manning-At least New York is extremely beautiful this time of year…

Matt Cassel-Pass

Jason Campbell-Josh Gordon helps a great deal but is that enough…?

Carson Palmer- Smells like a bad week for the old man….

Mike Glennon-Not thrilled at all about last week’s production..

Running Backs

Ryan Mathews/Montee Ball-These two will probably be the only guys whom fantasy owners may have serious concerns when heading into the TNF matchup..I like the former over the latter but both are decent plays…

Reggie Bush-If he plays or even smells like he is going to play by Sunday Afternoon …I’m ok with starting him…but have a Plan B ready….

Rashad Mendenhall- He isn’t going anywhere …

Pierre Thomas-Has been a non-factor the last few weeks..that changes this week…

Marcel Reece-Hopefully the Rashad Jennings and Darren McFadden’s of the world stay away so we can get another week out of the waiver wire hero from Week 14

Jordan Todman- If MJD can’t go …I like him but still it’s the Jaguars …nothing to get super excited about..

……………………..

Any CLE Back-The matchup screams for streaming here but figuring out who gets the production is quite the headache…

Chris Ivory-Not with this matchup…

Le’veon Bell/Gio Bernard-Hard to sit these two in any format as one is the no doubt bell cow and the other’s upside is ridiculous…but if you have safer options in earlier contests being that this is a SNF affair you make that move…

Bobby Rainey-Much like the guys I listed in yellow…This is such a tough sit but your gut will tell you the right thing to do here….

Zac Stacy-See Bobby Rainey

Matt Forte-No way you sit him but temper expectations a great deal…

Wide Receivers

Emmanuel Sanders-The bigger receivers give the Bengals fits…

Micheal Crabtree – Slowly but surely regaining form…

Doug Baldwin-RW3 bounces back this week in a big way with his help…

Dwayne Bowe-Every since his run in with the law smoking the wacky tabacky..he has “lifted” his play….

Stevie Johnson- Love the matchup and he finally seems to have not found himself on the injury report this week…I’ll take a leap of faith…

GB WRs-Only if Aaron Rodgers suits up am I comfortable with this call….Matt Flynn is garbage…

…………………..

Any NYG WRs-No way to think you can trust Eli now…

Any IND WRs-Who do you think scores this week??? Coby Fleener? Da’Rick Rodgers?? TY Hilton??

Steve Smith-Last week was a pleasant surprise…

Any NYJ WRs-Same here with Geno….. You believe he can be that efficient two weeks in a row???

Alshon Jeffery-Everyone is worried about Haden guarding Marshall or Alshon maybe the real concern should be if Cutler starts does this hurt Alshon’s recent production?

Kendall Wright-This has more to do with my lack of trust in Fitzpatrick than anything else…

Tight Ends

Dennis Pitta- Although he was mention in this blog last week …maybe you weren’t hearing me so I will repeat myself…the team needs this guy and figures to be the 2nd option in the passing game moving forward..

Jacob Tamme-Saw a lot of action when Welker went out last week and Welker has already been ruled out for this week …you do the math…

Martellius Bennett- The return of Cutler??

Heath Miller- Always seems to play a factor in the CIN/PIT contests

Jordan Reed- Young QBs use TEs as safety blankets…

Delanie Walker- See Kendall Wright…

…………………………

Jared Cook-How that start last week work for you who took a chance in a great matchup??

Rob Housler- Injury Risk

Luke Willson- Don’t risk it…

Jermaine Gresham-Last week really kinda came out of nowhere…

Any Pats TE- No sense in chasing production from the Gronk Fill-ins …..

Antonio Gates- Has been listed here for the last few weeks…with it being a TNF contest …use at your own risk…

Good luck to you all in Week Fifteen and remember….Trust your gut!!…everyone in the fantasy community including myself claim to know it all but at the end of the day its your team and your job to soak in all information and make the best calls for your team…Thank you for reading do not forget to check out my Fantasy Sports and Real Sports podcast “Perusing the Perimeter” Week Fifteen show with @KyleWachtel  on @FantasyTrade411Radio Network also available on I-Tunes.

“Perusing the Perimeter” Fantasy Football Week 14

Don’t get Taylor Swift!!!!…Don’t get Taylor Swift!!!!!.….Don’t get Taylor Swift!!!!!!….Don’t get Taylor Swift????…..Don’t get Taylor Swift !!!!Don’t get cute….It’s something you are going to be hearing a lot of from myself and the rest of the fananalysts in the community now that the playoffs are in fantasy football…and while it’s important to keep this as rule #1 moving forward by starting your best lineup possible and not taking too many ill advised risks…You do whatever it takes to win and if the matchups screams for it (think Drew Brees last week versus the Seahawks)… You have to find the guts to make the move…however you decide to make these tough choices this week …….draw names from a hat, have your wife/significant other pick the players, throw darts, use someone’s rankings (Which by the way I was #16/127  last week…humble brag much…Yeah yeah….*Evil Laugh*) Anyway, when kickoff starts at 1PMEST on Sunday ……this is it …what you have been waiting for all year…this is all you ..You got this…don’t even trip…Lose this week and you had a great year and there is no shame in a loss in the playoffs…You will get them next year…..But who am I kidding??? CJ2K-If they are going to make a serious push he has to have a great game here..right?

Rashard Mendenhall – I’m a huge hater of Rashard but you can’t knock his hustle with Ellington dealing with knee issues

“Perusing the Perimeter” Fantasy Football 2013 – Week 13

Dear Reader,

Thanksgiving is always a special time of the year…and not just for the football and of course the tons of food that will put many of us into a coma before the late game kicks off …But above all its all about being around Love…I like to consider the Thanksgiving Holiday the beginning of the giving season….but it’s also the beginning of the love season…As we are reminded of the struggles of others across the globe …the warmth we allow to fill our hearts and the hearts of others during the holidays really puts me in a good mood…Doesn’t have to be huge acts of kindness to get the job done….it’s the little things to show our love to friends, family, and strangers that will go a long way…Tip your pizza man a little extra next time you order via delivery…Offer much needed assistance or an ear to the elderly…offer to feed that homeless person you see out there braving the elements…Life can be hard sometimes…and we all need a little love and support from time to time…we as humans crave Love...your fantasy football team (if  you are lucky enough to be playing for something this week 13) will need a little love this weekend as well..as you wrestle you start/sit decisions this week (Which by the way make sure you check out this week’s “Perusing the Perimeter” with @AllieFontana) show love to your studs…show love to a waiver wire guy if you have to…show love to your opponent..and show love to your commish…Show love to your league mates for another great regular season….Fantasy football is a microcosm of life itself in that ..it is hard….but unlike life…. fantasy football is always suppose to be fun first..Remember with Love in anything you do life …You can’t lose…it’s that simple folks…Be Brave. …Be Bold…. Be You and Be safe this holiday week…Happy Hanukkah… and Happy Thanksgiving!!

Love,

@Whudey

Matt Ryan – I like him a lot this week…Buffalo’s DBs could have a tough time in this one..

Matt Flynn – Turkey Day desperation play if you need it..

Ryan Fitzpatrick – Couple of solid games in a row has me believing…

Alex Smith – Same with Alex Smith who all of sudden thinks he is Trent Green or something these last couple of weeks…

Josh McCown – The MINN secondary give up the most points to opposing WRs with Alshon and B-Marsh sounds good to me…

Brandon Weeden – He has Josh Gordon….FEED HIM!!!

……………………..

Case Keenum – Fool me once…Dead to me…

Mike Glennon – The nice run of games stops here versus the Carolina D

Andy Dalton – I want to believe in Andy….. you know I do..But…See the thing is….

Phillip Rivers - Mike Zimmer given two weeks to plan for a team is down right criminal…

Colin Kaepernick - The Roller Coaster ride that has been Kap this year makes its way downhill this week…

Drew Brees – Start your studs but GO WITH YOUR GUT…if you ain’t feeling it come Sunday/Thursday morning and think someone is going to blow…you make the move and never look back..still though Start your studs…confusing I know…

Running Backs

Lamar Miller - The job is all his to himself maybe..but never a better week to think about starting him…

James Starks – Turkey Day Desperation Play…

Trent Richardson - I really think that maybe just maybe TRich explodes the week that all owners have abandoned all hope in him…

Dennis Johnson – Ben Tate is trash…

Toby Gerhart – AP may be banged up and going against the soft Run D of the Bears …..Toby is a solid deep play…

Le’Veon Bell - I know his stats aren’t super sexy but I think he puts in work on Thursday…

……………………………

Bobby Rainey- Sit…

DeMarco Murray- I love Murray but I question the play calling with Cowboys…. in that this is Romo’s team and the run often gets phased out of the Cowboys game plan regardless of game situation…

Pierre Thomas- The return of Sproles

Any STL back not named Stacy - Too much of a gamble for me to trust as Cunningham and crew got work in on the Chicago D last week…

Ray Rice - If you have been starting him up until this point kinda hard to stop now…but don’t expect anything to awesome in standard leagues…

Danny Woodhead - He is a must start…but the matchup may be a tough one…this is going to be a tough decision for you come Sunday but he is 50% of the offense… tough to sit now…

Wide Receivers

Nate Burleson- Welcome back…Pizza for Thanksgiving???

Roddy White-See Matt Ryan

Terrance Williams-Now that Austin is back the big question will be who to start out of these two…I’m biased here not going to lie… but I rather go with the homerun TD threat than the PPR dink and dunk guy

Marvin Jones-He’s going back to Cali..Cali..Cali…

Alshon Jeffery-See Josh McCown

Percy Harvin-Some encouraging work put in before the bye week..

………………..

NO WRs- Brees could eat but who will be the beneficiary of his point production other than Jimmy Graham??? Mecham, Toon, Sproles, Thomas, Watson, Colston, Moore ?!?! Wayy too many options to take the risk and rolling with anyone not named Jimmy Graham in standard leagues…

Any Oakland WR-I assume someone may eat in this game but being less than 50% comfortable about all the given options … is never a good thing especially in Week 13

Micheal Crabtree- WAAAAAAAAYYYY TOOO RISKY…

Andre Johnson- Keenum is dead to me..

Mike Wallace- Not for me…

Vincent Jackson-See Mike Glennon

Tight Ends

Coby Fleener- Duh..

Greg Olsen- Last year when Cam kinda took off ……Olsen was quietly the catalyst…It may be the second coming of this…

Rob Housler-has been just going about his business the touchdowns are coming..

Martellius Bennett- Keep eating Black Unicorn

Charles Clay- The loss of Daniel Thomas gives the Dolphins more incentive to use the versatile Clay a bit more down the stretch…

Delanie Walker- Check the box score from a couple weeks ago…

…………………

Brandon Pettigrew- I just hope that you aren’t rely on him …please don’t let him ruin your Thankgiving

John Carlson- Welp…

Jordan Cameron- I know a lot of you are holding out hope..but it may be time to let go…

Antonio Gates- The Ladarius Green threat to his job is serious …very serious…

Quarterbacks

Carson Palmer – A semi reasonable matchup for Carson to successfully exploit as he continues to play mistake free football…

Ryan Fitzpatrick – Start your QBs versus Oakland

Matt McGloin – Start your QBs versus Tennessee

Matt Ryan – I know it’s a short week and the Falcons haven’t played well since Julio Jones went down it seems..but the ATL and NO games are usually high scoring affairs..if you own Matty Ice could see you sitting him but he isn’t’ a terrible option…

Case Keenum – You have to question whether Kubiak gives a damn anymore with the writing on the wall of his demise…still a very decent start..

Christian Ponder – Mr. Samantha Steele showing he has a “James and the Giant Peach” size pair since being reinstated into the starting role…

……………………..

Geno Smith – Last week was just awful…where was Mark Sanchez when you needed him…LOL …seriously folks don’t risk it…

Ryan Tannehill – With the way the Carolina D/ST is playing and the way the MIA O is playing…advantage goes to the CAR D/ST…

Andrew Luck – Last year’s Colts Offensive coordinator and current Arizona Head Coach Arians knows his tendencies can the Sophomore overcome a brutal road test?

Scott Tolizen – Just kinda praying at this point the Aaron Rodgers could come back as early as this week rumors as true…

Jason Campbell – Checkdown Charlie

RGIII – Going to be honest with you…I would find an alternative option with the Monday Night Start…

Running Backs

Rashad Jennings – Must say that I deserve to eat crow for being so bullish on him up until this point…

Shane Vereen – Back in the game and back to being a weekly solid flex play…

Chris Ivory – TDs or Yards I’ll take his point production however I can get it…

Donald Brown – Last week was nice…clearly the guy to own…but you always have to fear for the split is just about 50/50 between hima dn T-Rich..

Le’Veon Bell – His stats aren’t great but the job being his and his alone for the most part this time of year holds excellent weight in terms of value…

Mark Ingram – Smells like one of those weird games where the obscure make noise..

…………….

Lamar Miller/ Daniel Thomas – Yuck situation…

Steven Ridley – When you fumble in the Belichick house..you go to the dog house sometimes for extended periods…

Ryan Mathews – Depending on him for fantasy production is almost like having sex with an ugly chick…Do you really want to go around bragging you started Ryan Mathews this weekend?

MJD – The end of football career is realistically near maybe I can get him on PTP in the future?

Bobby Rainey – Was nice to see Western Kentucky’s finest get a shot at full playing time and reward owners on the gamble…I for one dropped him weeks ago when he was a Brown and never looked back…Damn…Just don’t go expecting repeat performance…

Alfred Morris – The only thing you have to worry about with him is Mike Shanahan…and yes that is a huge worry…

Wide Receivers

Kendall Wright – Been beating the Wright drums it seems like all year…*crosses fingers* this could be the week he adds a couple scores to all those receptions…

James Jones/J. Boykin/Jordy Nelson – With either QB I still moderately like them this week…

Cecil Shorts – “Squeaky wheel gets the oil..”

Alshon Jeffery – Feel safe with rolling him out weekly…

Chris Givens – Shot in the dark here…

Tiquan Underwood – Someone has got to eat a little bit opposite from V-Jax…

…………………..

Greg Jennings – Not risking starting him in a crucial week..

Dwayne Bowe – Sad when last week could be the last time he scores…

TY Hilton – Love the target volume but if you have better options I would sit him..

Pierre Garcon – I blame RGIII…Yeah I said it…Come at me bro…

Tavon Austin – What happened two weeks ago is exactly that …old news…

Wes Welker – All eyes will be on the injury report this week…if he starts although he may be limited more than he is already…I would gamble to start him…

Tight Ends

Greg Olsen – Cam is a nice groove currently and Olsen is benefiting….

Garrett Graham – Jags are terrible versus TEs…..

Jason Witten – He just comes to work and takes care of business

Heath Miller – In this ugly contest he may be the only one to catch a passing touchdown…

Delanie Walker – Fitzpatrick now being the starter has seen a flurry of targets being sent his way…

John Carlson – The $25 Million Dollar man has been earning his keep since Kyle Rudolph went down…

………………

Jordan Reed – Waiting for his injury report to come back clean on Saturday will be a very tough thing to do…I would avoid…

Coby Fleener – If anything Arians stops Andrew Luck from using his safety blanket…

Jared Cook – Even a bye week couldn’t save his soul…

Charles Clay – Tannehill could have a very rough go and usually comes at Clay’s expense…

Antonio Gates – KC let a Tight End Score last week for the first time..not happening two weeks in a row…

Jordan Cameron – Campbell just isn’t looking his direction the way Hoyer did…

Good luck to you all in Week Twelve and remember….Trust your gut!!…everyone in the fantasy community including myself claim to know it all but at the end of the day its your team and your job to soak in all information and make the best calls for your team…Thank you for reading do not forget to check out my Fantasy Sports and Real Sports podcast “Perusing the Perimeter” Week Twelve show with Chad Scott (@Chad_Scott13) on @FantasyTrade411Radio Network also available on I-Tunes.

“Perusing the Perimeter” Fantasy Football 2013 – Week 11

If you have followed me on twitter for these last four months (@Whudey) ….The WR/WR process I proposed originally back in late July on twitter while mocked (Trust me, I have tweets and emails saved but I am not the type to bring that stuff back out…Or am I? *EVIL LAUGH*) but for as much flack that I may or may not deserve good or bad about the process …Here in week 11 …..I feel the process (although still very imperfect and incomplete with it only being Week 11 will be something I promise you I will work diligently on in the off-season to perfect so we all can benefit come next draft season.) has won some of those non-believers over and those who took that leap of faith with me are reaping the rewards…and while I will keep the #HabitualLineSteppin here to a minimum …. I await the tons and tons of articles from fananalysts in the upcoming off-season piggybacking off the idea…Sure, we all want some type of credit for things like this but in all honesty I do not…the reward for me was opening your mind to the way I play fantasy football…It takes an outside the box approach to win a game that is reliant on so many outside factors not limited to but including “luck”… As I sat back and watched RB/RB process being shoved down fantasy football enthusiasts throat from countless fananalysts this past Summer…In my opinion this wasn’t creating a healthy conversation about quality draft tactics…the group think/peer pressure involved was borderline criminal brainwashing…Let me reiterate that I want no credit for simply being the voice of a process where there could be a guy in your league that has been using WR/WR process as his draft strategy for the last five years…I just want to say thank you for allowing me to be that voice.. You are the reason that You are enjoying the dividends of the WR/WR process…. While as fananalysts we want to be taken seriously….. Whether the process worked or not this season wasn’t something I was worried about…(of course I had no doubt it would …) Okay, I’d be lying to you if I told you I wasn’t a little bit worried…as I was very much personally invested in the process and knew some of you followed me blindly….. so there was a little bit of me that wanted it to work out for us all…but like I had mention before the small but very significant conversation I started accomplished what was needed within the fantasy football community providing a healthy debate on various draft strategy.… Bottom line folks, this fantasy football game is a weekly hustle…and while we all are trying to pimp our way through the long season …injuries will happen…you will lose close games to rivals…you may make a bad trade or two..but at the end of the day …Pimps don’t cry….Win or Lose…the game is meant to be fun…There is always next year…. Be Bold, Be Brave, Be You … Good luck this critical week…(Don’t forget to check out this week’s “Perusing the Perimeter” Podcast with John Beckler)

Quarterbacks

Eli Manning – Taking the double down approach here..

Case Keenum – playing without fear…gotta love it…

Nick Foles – Keep slangin’ TDs young hustla…

Alex Smith – He will have to put up a decent amount of points to win this ball game…

Ryan Fitzpatrick - Just a hunch

Geno Smith – Last time these two teams met this rookie showed off….

…………………..

Andy Dalton - Where is the Andy Dalton from 3 weeks ago?

Terrelle Pryor - He may be a bit more of an injury risk than we originally thought…

Matt Ryan – Just a bad football team at this point…

Andrew Luck – The highs and lows of the Pep Hamilton offense…

Matthew Stafford - Matchup kinda stinks but I would still roll with him

Drew Brees - Same situation for Brees as the Carolina D/ST is playing at a very high level….

Running Backs

Chris Ivory – Coming off a bye …before that they were feeding him the rock…why stop now???

Bernard Pierce – Please John give him more touches …

Ben Tate – Did decent work in a tough matchup…let’s see if he capitalizes on a softer one..

Andre Brown - HEEEEE’s BAAAAACCCKKKKKK!!!

Steven Ridley – I know Vereen is back but Ridley seems to have found his way out of The Hoodie’s doghouse before the bye..I believe he touches won’t be tampered with…

Danny Woodhead – …he is the RB to own in San Diego ROS and it’s not close…Sorry Mr. Inconsistent Ryan Mathews

……………..

Tampa Bay RBs - Rainey or Leonard?? Let someone else have to make this choice this Sunday

Ray Rice – Just god awful this year…yuck…

CJ Spiller – Maybe there is a chance he has a solid game…but are we risking this Week 11 of the fantasy football season with so much on the line?

Gio Bernard - Hate the matchup….hate the offensive coordinator….Quite frankly Jay Gruden can go to …..well..I digress

NO RBs - Last week I place this group here and what happened?? Sproles scored two TDs, PT scored two TDs, and Mark Ingram of all people had over 140 yards rushing?? Do you think it happens two weeks in a row with a tougher matchup??

Matt Forte - Terrible Matchup but START YOUR STUDS….

Wide Receivers

Vincent Jackson - After a couple brutal matchups he gets a softee …

David Nelson – Was quietly coming along within the offense before the bye..versus his old squad…Me Likey

James Jones – He is just due for a big game …

Mike Wallace – I think he puts a little bit more effort into his work this week…Last week was kind of a joke…

Torrey Smith - The only thing positive in Baltimore it seems…

DeAndre Hopkins – All masturbation on Intsagram jokes aside…(Which by the way..is kinda hilarious)..Teams should put more coverage Andre’s way and Hopkins should be the number 1 beneficiary…

…………………….

Steve Smith - Can not trust him no longer…

Cecil Shorts - ^^^^^^Ditto ^^^^^

Kendall Wright – Last week’s reverse jinx on John Carlson worked to perfection now let’s see if it can work for Mr.Wright

Rishard Matthews – What happened last week was just a flash in the pan performance

Roddy White – Ugly matchup…Ugly offense

Dwayne Bowe - Getting high might uplift his fantasy production …if he isn’t suspended still a solid play this week…

Tight Ends

Delanie Walker – In a pinch give him a look…

Tyler Eifert – If Gresham is ruled out he could be a top ten TE play this week…

Rob Housler – Keep riding the hot hand..

Jordan Reed – RGIII 2nd/1st Red zone passing option

Jordan Cameron – coming out of bye the Browns have to get thier 2nd best offensive skill player involved early and often….

Brandon Bostick – Diggin’ deep….

……………….

Rob Gronkowski - Luke Kulchey

Heath Miller – Losing targets to Jericho Cotchery

Jimmy Graham – San Fran LBs

Julius Thomas – KC has been very tough to opposing TEs

Antonio Gates – Is L.Green taking over??

Coby Fleener – TNF has played well recently for TEs….

Good luck to you all in Week Eleven and remember….Trust your gut!!…everyone in the fantasy community including myself claim to know it all but at the end of the day its your team and your job to soak in all information and make the best calls for your team…Thank you for reading do not forget to check out my Fantasy Sports and Real Sports podcast “Perusing the Perimeter” Week Eleven show with John Beckler (@JDBeckleron @FantasyTrade411Radio Network also available on I-Tunes.

“Perusing the Perimeter” Fantasy Football 2013 – Week 10

Now, that we are in Week Ten of the fantasy football season the time to allow yourself to make “cute” lineups decisions are coming to a close with only 2 more weeks after this one in which the byes play a major part in who you start and sit ..It’s the time of year for 2 for 1 trades.. selling your depth for an elite option going forward at a weak position on your rosters….Also the time of year to look at your depth and cut bait with those deep sleeper guys who never will see the starting lineup and allow yourself the flexibility to play the waiver wire in acquiring guys your opponents may play….Which reminds of a story from this past weekend….(I shared this via twitter which if you do not follow me take the time to do so @Whudey)….Anyway, a guy I was playing had Colin Kaepernick in his starting lineup going into Sunday Night Football … only up by 10 points or so I took a look at the waiver wire  and saw that Josh McCown was available …having already started Drew Brees… I was in no need for a Quarterback but with no one left to play I wanted to ensure a victory…So I picked up Josh McCown and dropped the newly acquired Johnathan Stewart…these are the type of moves you need to be making some say those who muck up the waiver wire are terrible for the game. And while I see there point as nothing can be more infuriating than needing a player and searching the wire for viable options only to find they are locked until next week’s waiver wire bidding…But I can’t hate on it…It’s just as much a part of the fake football arena as the ice the kicker move in real life…Bush league sure…but you win from here on out by any means necessary…the playoff landscape in your respective leagues are starting to look a bit clearer and every fantasy point and every W desperately counts…Make sure you are making quality moves to help your fake football team win down the stretch and playing defense via the waiver wire is very under utilized tactic …Don’t be one of those who get hung up on having depth …As the great Mike Singletary would say…”We want winners…!!” (Make sure you check out this week’s podcast “Perusing the Perimeter” with my guest Brian Luzier.)

Quarterbacks

Jake Locker – Start your QBs versus the Jags

Christian Ponder - Seems as if Mr. Samantha Steele has lit the proverbial fire under his anus after the benching

Big Ben – Excellent soft matchup..

Eli Manning - Coming out of a bye let’s hope the NYG leader inspires  his team with his play down the stretch

Andy Dalton – Halloween sucked…not a sexy matchup but he has to play better…right?

Joe Flacco – The Elite QB with the elite paycheck is under fire to perform big time…

………………..

EJ Manuel - Coming back from injury …facing the Steelers after they were embarrassed by the Patriots…yeah no thanks..

Case Keenum – Sunday night was nice…also means there is enough film out on him to exploit weaknesses…love him long term..

Nick Foles – He had the game of his career on the waiver wire or on your bench…(unless out of pure desperation you played him) there was a reason he was put there in the first place let someone else take a  chance on him

RGIII – Was just an okay performance last week … TNF aside he is facing one of the more generous squads in giving up points to opposing QBs …

Ryan Tannehill – Not sure if I want to risk the Monday Night start with other viable candidates going on Sunday and Thursday

Matt Ryan – The 2012 Atlanta Falcons offense is just a distant memory at this point……

Running Backs

Mike James – Have you seen the stat line from the Seattle game?

Le’ Veon Bell – The best back they have and it’s not even close..Feed him Tomlin…

Rashad Jennings – filling in for the injured Darren McFadden (seems I cursed him in last week’s article..my bad)

Demarco Murray - Last week was very encouraging to say the least..

Ray Rice - Matchup kinda stinks but Rice has been a Bengals killer for years…wouldn’t be surprised to see a bounce back game here..

……………………..

NO Running Backs – Mark Ingram returned to action and Darren Sproles suffered a concussion…Pierre Thomas still getting work..just a mess really…

NY Giants Running Backs – Who is the starting tailback for this team this week?? If Andre Brown….He is a strong start this week…if anyone else…. avoid…

T-Rich - The trade that we all hoped would boost his value has been the exact opposite..

Lamar Miller – Rough start this week…stay patient..

Gio Bernard - Dealing with a Rib issue he may be limited…as a precautionary measure…

Alfred Morris - Oh the Shanahanigens……..

Wide Receivers

Kendall Wright – Let’s double down on this call from a week ago…

Lance Moore - With Sproles out he may have to fill the role…Strong PPR play this week…

Emmanuel Sanders - I have no idea why he is on as many waiver wires as he is currently…

Torrey Smith – Bengals have a tendency to give up a big play or two..

Riley Cooper – Foles seems to have changed the landscape in Philly making him the WR1 and DeSean returning to his inconsistent ways…

Cecil Shorts – At least you know double digit targets are in order for him ROS …

………..

Robert Mecham – Can’t say the same things about the Former but now Current New Orleans Saint as I did with Shorts

Andre Johnson – See Case Keenum … (Start your studs)

Mike Wallace – If you can avoid relying on him in the MNF contest..do it…

Denarius Moore – TP may be out for this one…and the magic dies..

Eagles Tight Ends (Ertz, Celek) – See Nick Foles

Jon Carlson - Reverse jinx here…(Let’s hope it pays off with a cheap TD)

Greg Olsen – He just may not score this week..just a hunch..

Tony Gonzalez - The Future HOF is all they have now…and he will continue to be a beast just wonder if the body is going to hold up to increased action and putting the team on his back…

Good luck to you all in Week Ten and remember….Trust your gut!!…everyone in the fantasy community including myself claim to know it all but at the end of the day its your team and your job to soak in all information and make the best calls for your team…Thank you for reading do not forget to check out my Fantasy Sports and Real Sports podcast “Perusing the Perimeter” Week Ten show with @TheFFBoss Brian Luzier on @FantasyTrade411Radio Network also available on I-Tunes.

“Perusing the Perimeter” Fantasy Football – Week 9

Happy Halloween folks…Another big bye week with Arizona, Denver, Detroit, Jacksonville, New York Giants, and San Francisco all getting much needed rest…..while others may panic without the likes of Demaryius Thomas and Calvin Johnson…Marvin Jones performance last Sunday can be used as a reminder that making a trade to fill the void left by a bye week player isn’t necessary…. Of course as a Bengals fan with them playing on Halloween I couldn’t more excited..But terrified..For obvious TNF reasons….(Feel free to follow me on twitter @Whudey as I may or may not be live tweeting a lil’ tipsy throughout the Bengals/Dolphins game). My advice to you this week…..Don’t be TRICKED into a bad deal …owners are looking to take advantage of your “shortcomings” on your roster don’t fall for it…TREAT yourself to a few waiver wire heroes like Emmanuel Sanders instead….. As we reach the official half way point of the fantasy football season ..Don’t be TRICKED into starting guys like Dwayne Bowe or Maurice Jones Drew…The home stretch is no time for dead weight …..TREAT yourself to trading them for a useful player or dropping them all together preventing further headache. Do TRICK your opponents into thinking they have an easy win this week…and TREAT yourself to victory by listening to this week’s “Perusing the Perimeter” podcast..(although to warn you there are minor issues to start the show with audio but gets cleaned up after first ten minutes or so …I blame BTR on the show through frustration but it’s my bad folks…will do better to serve you next week..)

I will be grouping the offensive skill positions listing my “Treats” first and then “Tricks”….After that I will color code them from most comfortable to least comfortable on placing into my starting lineup this week…Hope its not to confusing and hope it ultimately helps…New addition to the “PTP” blog this year will be my personal rankings from FantasyPros.com for the given week posted below which I will update daily up until a couple hours before kickoff every Sunday:
//

Quarterbacks

Terrelle Pryor – The Philadelphia Secondary is still one of the worst in the league…

Jake Locker - Everyone is talking him up and rightfully so… those struggling with Matt Ryan may want to give him a look as he has tasty matchups rest of the way and has played well when on the field..

Alex Smith - The matchup is right…

Josh McCown – He has the weapons to shine on Monday night…

Thad Lewis - Could do worse this bye week…

Geno Smith – The rookie took his lumps on the road last week…let’s hope playing at home is the remedy for a bounce-back week…

Mike Glennon – At Seattle…pass…

Kellen Clemens – He is not Sam Bradford

Case Keenum – The SNF lights may startle the rookie..

Nick Foles – Will he disappoint again after everyone made him the #1 waiver wire grab two weeks ago?

Christian Ponder – Mr.Samantha Steele posted solid fantasy points last week when other QBs had big time letdowns…still a decent option this week just not something to get overly excited about…

Tom Brady - At this point you are just praying he puts this team on his back and post MVP numbers the ROS but it’s not looking likely…Getting Shane Vereen back should help….

Running Backs

Matt Forte - Only reason he is put here is if you can trade for him..DO IT!! The return on your investment will  far exceed the 2 or 3 players you will give up to acquire his services the ROS…

Run DMC – Could he stay healthy the rest of the year??..last week looked like the guy from a couple years ago before the nagging foot injury

CJ2k - This is what you have been waiting for if you drafted Chris Johnson the soft part of the schedule…

Mike Tolbert – Getting lots of play here lately…. JStew could be back this week but I don’t think that would matter when it comes to Tolbert…(If you have space on your squad couldn’t hurt to grab JStew this week as a stash play)

Chris Ivory – Still looking like he is the favored guy in NY … and I have seen him on a few waiver wires in some of my personal leagues ..it’s worth a shot…

Mike James - Could be in line for a Goal-line TD

Indianapolis RBs – TRich is looking like 2012 Micheal Turner…and Donald Brown isn’t getting enough touches..Yes, that Donald Brown…

Cleveland RBs - Who is even the starting RB for this team!?!? I don’t think it matters at this point…

Miami RBs – Daniel Thomas isn’t going away…and the Cincinnati D is stout versus the run…

Cincinnati RBs - Much like the above options the bye week make it rough on a lot of us and many of these backs could end up starting for you this week just temper expectations across the board … seeing some silly projections out there on various sites…

Houston RBs – The injury watch on Arian Foster and Ben Tate will be a gruesome one with the Sunday Night start .. maybe grab James Starks/Donald Brown as a desperation play if one or both can’t go….

Ray Rice - The Matchup stinks but …..start your studs…..given the impact of this bye week you have no choice but to start him…

Wide Receivers

Stevie Johnson - I mention this in the podcast but whenever he seems to have a tough matchup he overproduces his fantasy output by double any projection…still his fantasy ceiling isn’t very high ..but don’t over-think it…

Emmanuel Sanders – He is soo hot…ride him…(get your mind out the gutter…)

Ted Ginn – Well it looks like former first round pick is trying to play fantasy zombie this season…

Denarius Moore - Terrelle Pryor’s #1 Target

Keenan Allen - Love the matchup and coming out the of the bye week makes me love him twice as much…

Kendell Wright - The WR to own in Tennessee

Danny Amendola - Sad return on investment for the Patriots so far to start the 2013 season…

Marvin Jones – Just don’t go expecting 4 TDs ….while 3 is completely within reason…Lmao…

Torrey Smith - At least his name isn’t Dwayne Bowe

TY Hilton – I  am curious to see the usage of him Sunday Night..

Percy Harvin - He plays I am starting him…but you knew that…

Vincent Jackson - Yes, the matchup is scary..but a guy getting about 13 targets per game is hard to sit…

Tight Ends

Tyler Eifert - This is more wishful thinking….  but given all the attention Marvin Jones has received the last few days for his incredible performance…Jay Gruden hits the Dolphins with counter and features Eifert this week in similar Red Zone fashion…

Jermaine Gresham – See Tyler Eifert…

Heath Miller - New England loves giving up points to TEs

Scott Chandler – Getting more involved within the offense with Thad at QB

Martellus Bennett - Just a hunch here really…I’m lukewarm on my trust for McCown

Jared Cook - His old team gets him off of fantasy life support in 2013?

woman

Charles ClayWHODEY!!!!

Brent Celek – Dead to me…

Zach Miller – Too risky…

Coby Fleener - With Wayne gone there is a chance some extra targets are sent his way..but I’m a realist..LOL

Kyle Rudolph - As long as Ponder *cough cough* Mr.Samantha Steele is under center…. he is a decent play…

Jordan Cameron - The Browns are saying they want to get him more involved than a week ago so let’s hope it’s not just coach speak…

Good luck to you all in Week Nine and remember….Trust your gut!!…everyone in the fantasy community including myself claim to know it all but at the end of the day its your team and your job to soak in all information and make the best calls for your team…Thank you for reading do not forget to check out my Fantasy Sports and Real Sports podcast “Perusing the Perimeter” Week Nine show with Salvatore Stefanile (@2QBFFB) on @FantasyTrade411Radio Network also available on I-Tunes.
